Absolutely. Regardless of visa type, anyone moving into an apartment in Germany must register within 14 days. Without the *Meldebescheinigung* (registration certificate), you cannot obtain your Tax ID (*Steuer-ID*), meaning your employer will tax you at the punitive maximum Class VI rate.
