Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an age limit for US citizens?
No. Unlike other nationalities that are strictly capped at age 30 or 35, US citizens do not have a hard upper age limit. However, eligibility is tightly restricted to current full-time students or recent graduates (within 12 months).
How do I apply if I am from Taiwan?
Taiwanese citizens do not apply via standard Irish consulate channels. Applications are processed entirely by the ISD via a designated handling agent in New Taipei City and are subject to an annual quota of 400 persons.
Are there any hidden costs to the Irish WHA?
Yes. While the consular application fee is very low (around €60), there is a mandatory €300 government registration fee to obtain your Irish Residence Permit (IRP) card once you arrive. You will also need to upfront the cost for 12 months of private travel insurance.
Can I work in any job in Ireland?
Yes, mostly. The WHA is designed to let you supplement your holiday funds, so you can work in most standard sectors without needing an employment permit. However, certain regulated professions (like medicine) still require strict credential recognition.
