Frequently Asked Questions
Can I work during the 6 months?
No. You cannot start work on the Job Seeker visa itself. You must find an employer, sign a contract, and successfully switch to an RWR Card before you can legally perform labor.
What if I don't find a job?
You must leave Austria at the end of the 180-day period. The Job Seeker visa cannot be extended or renewed.
Can my family join me?
No. Family reunification is only possible once you have transitioned to a Red-White-Red Card.
Does my university need to be on a list?
There is no static 'list,' but the AMS reviews the global ranking and recognition of your degree to determine if it qualifies for the high-tier VHQ points.
Is insurance needed?
Yes. You must hold comprehensive private health insurance covering all risks for the duration of your 180-day search.
