Frequently Asked Questions

What happens after the 24 months are up?
You can transition to a 'Red-White-Red Card Plus,' which grants you unrestricted access to the Austrian labor market (no longer tied to a specific employer).
Can I bring my family?
Yes. Spouses and children of RWR Card holders are eligible for an immediate 'Red-White-Red Card Plus' and have full work rights.
Is the points calculation difficult?
The AMS is strict. Ensure you have official certificates for all claimed points, especially language levels and work experience 'Employment Certificates' (Dienstzeugnisse).
Do I need a university degree?
For shortage occupations, a vocational training certificate or high-school diploma in a relevant field can suffice, provided you hit the 55-point mark through experience and language.
What is the MA35 warning?
If your employer is in Vienna, expect severe delays of 6-12 months due to MA35 processing backlogs. Employers in provincial capitals (Linz, Graz) typically see results in 8-12 weeks.
