Frequently Asked Questions
Can I bring my family?
Yes. Skilled workers have the right to family reunification for spouses and children. Family members can apply at the same time as the main applicant.
Does this lead to Permanent Residence?
Yes. After 3 years of continuous residence on a skilled worker permit, you are generally eligible for Permanent Residence, provided you meet language and social studies requirements.
What if my salary is lower than the threshold but 'normal' for the role?
The UDI thresholds are mandatory minimums for non-EU nationals. If the collective agreement for the role is higher than the UDI threshold, the higher amount applies.
Can I switch employers?
If you find a new job that requires the same type of qualification, you can usually start working for the new employer immediately, but you must notify the UDI.
Do I need to speak Norwegian?
Not for the initial permit. However, some regulated professions (like healthcare) require Norwegian proficiency for licensing.
