Frequently Asked Questions

Does this permit allow for family reunification?
Yes. Spouses and children can join you in Norway and are generally granted full work rights.
Can I switch to a higher salary tier if I get a degree later?
Yes. If you complete a degree and find a job requiring it, you can transition to the 'Skilled Worker (Degree)' category.
What is the common processing time?
UDI processing averages 2-3 months, but 'Early Work Start' can drastically reduce the wait for candidates with certified employers.
Is there a limit on how many vocational permits are issued?
No. Unlike the Swiss system, Norway does not operate a hard quota for skilled workers, provided all criteria are met.
What if my trade isn't 'vocational' in my home country?
Norway uses its own internal comparison. If your training is shorter than 3 years, you may not qualify unless you have extensive special qualifications (highly rare).
