Frequently Asked Questions

Is an IND recognized sponsor required?
No. Unlike the HSM permit, the employer for an EU Blue Card does NOT necessarily have to be an IND recognized sponsor, although it is still highly recommended for faster processing.
Does the 30% Ruling apply?
Yes, EU Blue Card holders who are recruited from abroad and meet the salary/distance requirements are eligible for the 30% tax-free allowance.
Can I switch to the HSM permit?
Yes. Most candidates choose whichever permit offers the fastest processing or lowest personal administrative burden; the HSM is often faster if the employer is already recognized.
What happens if I lose my job?
You generally have a 3-month period to find a new role that meets the Blue Card criteria. If you have been a Blue Card holder for more than 2 years, this period increases to 6 months.
When can I apply for Long-Term Resident status?
After 5 years of legal residence in the EU, provided the last 2 years were consecutive in the Netherlands with a Blue Card.
