Frequently Asked Questions

Was the 2024 scale-back of the 30% ruling officially repealed?
Yes. While a 30/20/10 scale-back was initially planned, for 2026 it has been replaced with a flat 27% rate for 60 months (starting in 2027), but for the 2026 transition, it remains at the full 30% for the duration. The income cap is approximately €262,000.
Can I bring my partner and children?
Yes. Family members receive 'full access to the labor market,' meaning your spouse or partner can work for any employer without needing a separate work permit.
What is the 'Reduced Criterion' for graduates?
If you find a job as an HSM within 3 years of your graduation or Orientation Year, you qualify for a much lower salary threshold (€3,122) which remains valid even after you turn 30 or switch employers.
Is there a degree requirement for the HSM visa?
Technically, no. Unlike the EU Blue Card which requires a university degree, the HSM is purely salary-based. However, your role must be professional in nature to justify the high compensation.
Can I switch employers while in the Netherlands?
Yes. As long as your new employer is also an IND recognized sponsor and your salary still meets the relevant threshold, your residence permit remains valid.
